The Muslim Brotherhood (Egypt) - a current description in the year 2011
cited from Time Magazine July 25, 2011
"The Rise of Modern Islam" - by Bobby Ghosh
"Organization has always been the Muslim Brotherhood's strong suit. Founded in 1928 to promote Islamic law and values, .... Estimates of its membership vary from 100,000 to many time that number.... association with the Brotherhood (has been) an invitation to police harassment or worse. The group has long been feared in The West as a source and supporter of the Brotherhood. Some scholars trace the origins of terrorist groups like al-Qaeda to the Islamists.
In Egypt, however, the group long ago rejected the rhetoric of violent jihad, and it is seen as a social movement as much as a political entity. Egypt's' poor have long associated the Brotherhood with its social, service, like free clinics and schools. (p.44)

"Islamic Nazis" - from Deep Black:Death Wave - Stephen Coots ... 2011
"The riot ... had reminded him how much he hated this part of the world with its Islamic Nazis, volatile passions, brain-dead bigotry, and blind adherence to unreasoning hatred." (p.179)
"The Friday Muslim Holy Day speech " - Deep Black:Death Wave - Stephen Coonts - 2011
"The mob was as raucous and noisy as the riot in the streets ... that morning; this time, though, the excitement was being generated by the speech from loudspeakers mounted high up on the Madrasah's walls. It was Friday, the Muslim holy day, and the sermon was being delivered to an enthusiastic crowd .... several thousand people were packed into the university's grounds and the surrounding streets." "..... he's saying ... GOD HIMSELF is going to wipe America away in a deluge of righteousness.... the impassioned declarations boomed out, elicting waves of cheering chants, and dizzying exultation.... The speaker was ... delivering his Friday sermon from somwhere inside the .... Madrasah. That in itself was interesting. The Pakistani government had repeatedly told the West that they had no idea of ....'s wherabouts."
"(he) ... was reminded of films he'd seen of Adolph Hitler delivering a speech to a sea of passionately adoring listeners at Nuremberg. The speech was an assault upon reason itself." (pps. 178-179)

Fundamentalists and Women with bras .."cuttings" - Deep Black:Death Wave - Stehpen Coonts 2011
"... clerics had begun enforcing their vision of Shari'a (law) on the region's female population - ordering families not to allow their daughters to attend the foreigners' schools on pain of death, ordering families to have "the cutting" carried out on all their daughters in accord with ancient tradition, ordering the wearing of scarves and veils as well as the traditional coverings to comport with THEIR ideas of what constituted proper modesty.
Perhaps the most bewildering of all was the recent ban on bras, seen as "deceptive" and therefore in violation of Islamic law. .... militia gangs had been rounding up women and inspecting them in the streets. Those found to be wearing a bra were publicly stripped, given twenty lashes and forced to shake their breasts in front of the militiamen ... (p.217)
"Women found to be wearing trousers could receive forty lashes .... after being stripped and shamed." (p. 217)
"Even worse was the enforcement of the cuttings. .. The cutting of a girl's genitals ... had long been sanctioned by Islamic culture and was common across Muslim Africa.... however, the cutting was not required by the holy Qur'an; ... it was an outgrowth of local cultures, something likely practiced here long before the Prophet's message had come." (p. 218)

"There is no such thing as Global Islam" - Stephen Coonts - 2011
" Right now, there's no such thing as global Islam. They're divided between Sunni and Shi'ite, between radical and moderate and conservative. Different interpretations of the Qu'aran. Different culture beliefs." - page 201, Deep Black:Death Wave
